They inspired not only Lone Wolf movies and television shows like this one, but also were the inspiration for the gentleman criminal-turned-detective The Saint. In 1954 Gross-Krasne Productions, an independent television show producer, filmed 39 thirty minute episodes for television. They changed The Lone Wolf character from a criminal jewel thief to a wealthy man-about-town that always stumbles upon a mystery that only he can solve. One of my favorites, Pat Crowley, and other famous TV Moms: Barbara Billingsley (Leave it to Beaver), June Lockhart (Lassie and LIS), Isabel Sanford (The Jeffersons) and Alley Mills (The Wonder Years) pay a visit to Rosie and offer some suggestions and reminders on the requirements of being a TV mom in this short clip from this special Rosanne episode.

Growing up, I watched all of these shows (including Rosanne as a young adult), but my favorite of the group of family sitcoms was Please Don't Eat the Daisies (50th anniversary of the show's debut this year!!) with Pat Crowley. Her Joan Nash was (and is) a gem ... television's first work-at-home mom! And the first (or second, hello Laura Petrie) homemaker and mom to wear slacks! As good as Doris Day was in the movie version, Pat matches Doris' charm and energy and gives a nice, warm feel to the show. Everyone wanted a mom like Joan Nash.

This episode is from season 7 of the Roseanne series, first broadcast on ABC on March 1, 1995. To own this DVD or any of the others from the nine seasons of Rosanne, check out Amazon, B&N, Google Play, Apple Store/iTunes, etc.

I am always (*always*) on the lookout for hard to find old TV series, and Please Don't Eat the Daisies...

Recently viewed episodes from a show named Panic which ran on NBC in 1957.
Never heard of this show... it had a short run and information on it is nearly non-existent. This episode "Nightmare" had a great film noir quality from the title to the photography. Very nice considering the budget. The quote about it in the description is not mine but from some web site comment ... just about the only one I could find on the show.

In any case, 'Nightmare' is a compelling story about premonition ... a wife has a dream her husband will be in a fatal car accident under highly improbable driving circumstances... one by one these improbable circumstances become fact.... all leading to an unexpected conclusion. Anyone familiar with the long running series "One Step Beyond" may see it has a similar feel but in a much more glossy and stronger "noir" filmic style. Have fun. Don't you just love the way these episodes open ???

Please Don't Eat the Daisies comedy series on NBC was a nice , warm family series and a part of the NBC lineup for its second season in September 1966.

The series, starring Pat Crowley as Joan Nash and Mark Miller as husband Jim Nash. had debuted a year earlier for its maiden voyage during the 1965-66 season. The ratings had been less than spectacular that first season, and the show had been originally slated for cancelation by NBC in the late winter of 1966.

But by divine intervention and some help from Danny Thomas on a series he and Sheldon Leonard had been developing, a final half hour slot on the NBC fall lineup had been opened up at the last minute, and there was Please Don't Eat the Daisies still on the shelf, awaiting a second chance. The series received an order for a second season for fall 1966!

Now on Saturday nights, the second season featured a new hairstyle for Joan Nash (and star Pat Crowley!), and new stories involving a husband and wife and kids living in a big old house.

The series would not go on beyond this second season on NBC, but the series would develop over time into a remarkably solid performer in syndication reruns for generations to remember and enjoy.

We pay tribute to the series...

Four Star Playhouse is an American television anthology series that ran from 1952 to 1956. Four Star Playhouse was owned by Four Star International. Its episodes ranged anywhere from surreal mysteries, such as "The Man on the Train," to light comedies, such as "The Lost Silk Hat." The original premise was that Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, David Niven, and Dick Powell would take turns starring in episodes. However, several other performers took the lead from time to time, including Ronald Colman and Joan Fontaine.

The show was sponsored in its first bi-weekly season by The Singer Company. Bristol-Myers became an alternate sponsor when it became a weekly series in the fall of 1953 (both sponsors' names alternated as part of the show's title in its initial broadcasts).

While it never made the Nielsen Top 30, the ratings were sufficient to keep it on the air for four seasons. In 1954, Billboard voted it the second best-filmed network television drama series.

I was so sadden to learn of the death of Barbara Billingsley yesterday.

I had gotten to know Barbara over the years through my management of Isabel Sanford. In the 1990's when "TV mothers" were all the rage, it seemed like every other week, Isabel and I would find ourselves on a plane or sharing a limo with Barbara, June Lockhart and Marion Ross in one combination or another. There were trips to New York together; there were television sitcom appearances together; there were talk show appearances together; and there were a ton of local charity event appearances together.

What a joyous time; what a wonderful person to get to know; what an entourage we all made.

I never saw Barbara be anything less than gracious and friendly to anyone who approached her for her autograph or to talk about "the Beaver" or just in the day-to-day routine of business and life.

There are many highlights of my association with her, none the least of which is when she agreed to sit down and chat over a cup of coffee on my coffee shop cable talk series "Lemack & Company Live" in 1991.

Soon the entire interview will be available to view on RerunIt.com. In the meantime, we have hastily pulled together...

His segment here highlights the 10-year anniversary party at Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications in 1997. Speaking of which, how many Chicagoans have ever been to the MBC? For many, it somehow flies below their radar - a definite loss for them. Check it out the next time you're downtown. It's conveniently located a few steps north of Marina Towers on State Street.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When a flight attendant struggles to understand her jive-talking passengers, a friendly old lady (Barbara Billingsley) steps in.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
This spoof of the Airport series of disaster movies relies on ridiculous sight gags, groan-inducing dialogue, and deadpan acting -- a comedy style that would be imitated for the next 20 years. Airplane! pulls out all the clichés as alcoholic pilot Ted Striker (Robert Hays), who's developed a fear of flying due to wartime trauma, boards a jumbo jet in an attempt to woo back his stewardess girlfriend (Julie Hagerty). Food poisoning decimates the passengers and crew, leaving it up to Striker to land the plane, with the help of a glue-sniffing air traffic controller (Lloyd Bridges) and Striker's vengeful former captain (Robert Stack), who must both talk him down. Along the way, we meet a clutch of stock disaster movie passengers like the guitar-strumming nun, a sick little girl, a frightened old lady, and two African-American travelers whose "jive" has to be subtitled. Leslie Nielsen portrays the plane's doctor,...

This is the original opening sequence for "Still The Beaver" (later retitled "The New Leave It To Beaver") which ran from 1984-89 on both The Disney Channel (1984-85) and TBS (1986-89). This sequel series of sorts was a spin-off series of the 1957-63 CBS/ABC sitcom "Leave It To Beaver"

In this sitcom, 20 years after America saw the Cleaver family last, things have changed dramatically. June (Barbara Billingsley) is now a widow, as her husband, Ward, died in 1977. (Hugh Beaumont died one year before the reunion movie in 1982). Wally (Tony Dow) is now an attorney married to his high school sweetheart Mary Ellen (Janice Kent) and father to daughter Kelly (Kaleena Kiff), and later, son Kevin (Troy Davidson).

And of course, Theodore "The Beaver" (Jerry Mathers) is still the Beaver, though his eternal innocence did not serve him well into his adult years. At the age of 33, Beaver is now an unemployed, divorced father of two sons, and is forced to move with his family back into his mother's home. Though in time, he does find a new job, working for Fred Rutherford, the father of Wally's childhood friend Lumpy (Frank Bank), and eventually striking out on his own with Lumpy to form their own company. After he...
