Anecdotally, I once found myself IN this pet shop. It was in the Caledonian Road, North London. I wandered in - I was passing and needed something or other - and realised it looked familiar. Then I saw the signed picture behind the counter. It was a still of John and Michael in that "very boutique".
The shop-owner explained that when they'd done the bit on TV, they'd HAD to do it in the studio - for the audience reaction. But since this was for the FILM ("And Now For Something Completely Different") there would be no live audience. And with the superior definition of a film, a set just wouldn't MAKE it. Real pet shops have CLUTTER. And so they'd gone and found one - HIS.
I don't know if the shop is still there - if it is, the guy has probably made more money letting people be photographed there (like on the crossing outside the Abbey Road studios) than he has selling Norwegian Blue parrots!

Who is Michael Palin
Michael Edward Palin CBE FRGS (born 5 May 1943) is an English comedian, actor, writer and television presenter. He was one of the members of the comedy group Monty Python and later made a number of travel documentaries.
Palin wrote most of his comedic material with Terry Jones. Before Monty Python, they had worked on other shows such as the Ken Dodd Show, The Frost Report, and Do Not Adjust Your Set. Palin appeared in some of the most famous Python sketches, including "Argument Clinic", "Dead Parrot sketch", "The Lumberjack Song", "The Spanish Inquisition", and "The Fish-Slapping Dance".
Palin continued to work with Jones after Python, co-writing Ripping Yarns. He has also appeared in several films directed by fellow Python Terry Gilliam and made notable appearances in other films such as A Fish Called Wanda, for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In a 2005 poll to find The Comedians' Comedian, he was voted the 30th favourite by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.
In Monty Python, Palin played various roles, which ranged from manic enthusiasm (such as the lumberjack of the Lumberjack Song, or Herbert Anchovy, host of the game show "Blackmail")...

Saturday Night Live did not waste anytime working host/musical guest Justin Timberlake into the show tonight with a cold open that featured the actor/singer as Elton John, serenading the recently departed Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez with "Candle In The Wind."
Timberlake, as Elton John, prefaced his song by informing the audience that everything he was about to sing was true. He then worked in facts like Chavez calling Bush "the devil" and pulling out two pistols at a press conference. And of course, "Capitalism killed Mars."
Basically, the sketch was a great excuse to get Timberlake singing at the top of the show.
